Archives for Mom Rants category

This post on Modern Mom caught my attention because I am guilty of the very same thing. For us it started when we realized the boy liked The Backyardigans and he would actually sit still for the 20 minutes it was so I could take a shower or do a load a laundry.

Because 100% of my work is done on my laptop, he developed a major interest in it very quickly. Then, just like the author of this post came the LeapFrog toys, the Wii, the XBox, PBSKids.org, NickJr.com and countless other toddler game websites that they advertise on television almost more than toys these days.

I think he was not quite 3 years old when he mastered my iPhone and then last year I completely lost ownership of my iPad to him. Playing a few iPad games in the bed to make bedtime less of  a fight seemed innocent enough at the time.

While I’m glad he’s got a head start on computer skills (at 5 years old he can navigate a browser as well as I can), it’s a bit frustrating when he acts like he’s being punished when I tell him to turn everything off and go play with his toys.

Luckily for me though I have a outdoor loving kid. He would never choose video games over riding his four-wheeler or swimming but definitely would rather be playing Super Mario Wii than with his Matchbox cars.

He’s my monster that I created. So I’m dealing it with it the best I can….keeping him busy outside all summer until the winter computer / video game hibernation begins again this fall.
